Love Scout: A Refreshing Take on Romance Done Right

Image
Drama: Love Scout         Genre: Romance, Drama         Episodes: 12         Streaming on Rakuten Viki   Love Scout tells a story of a romance between the CEO and secretary. When I first heard about it, it felt like the plot seemed too familiar which didn't excite me much. Except, there was a fresh twist to this familiar plot. Instead of the usual CEO being a man with a female secretary, here the CEO is a woman which gave it a unique vibe from the start. Its fun and also empowering seeing the roles reversed. A little more backstory about these two: the female main lead is a CEO for this headhunter company where she has to find suitable employees for businesses. She presents herself as this cold-hearted workaholic, and someone who doesn't really take care of herself or care to talk to others unless its about business. One thing you'll notice is that in the first fe...

An Overrated K-Drama I Enjoyed but Wouldn't Rewatch

Image
"Love Next Door" is overrated. Is this a hot take?  I want to start by saying that this isn’t meant to be hate toward anyone involved in creating or acting in this drama. I appreciate the effort that goes into making a series, and this is just my personal opinion as a viewer. When I found out Jung So-min was in this, I was really excited because I truly believe she’s talented, and her performances always stand out. The actors were all phenomenal, but for me, the issue wasn’t with them—it was with how the characters and storyline were written. "Love Next Door"  is about a woman who returns to Korea to restart her life and ends up reuniting with her childhood best friend with whom she shares a complicated history.  Going into it, I expected a romantic comedy, but instead, it felt like one tragic event after another. While I understand the importance of emotional depth, I think they could have focused on healing without making it so overwhelmingly heavy. The romance ...

3 K-Dramas that will make you cry

Image
Are you looking for K-Dramas that will shatter your heart in the best way? Ones that will make  you drown in tears and fall in love with the characters? If so, you should watch these three  K- Dramas.  1.  Hi Bye, Mama!  This K-Drama is an underrated masterpiece that I highly recommend. It follows the story of a ghost who is reincarnated and given 49 days to return to her former life as her husband's wife and the mother of her daughter—just as it was meant to be. However, what makes this story truly interesting is the emotional dilemma she faces: her husband has remarried, and she's practically a stranger to her daughter. Will she fight to reclaim the life that was taken from her, or will she accept her fate and the painful truth that some things can’t be undone? What makes this drama so impactful is its exploration of grief, love, and the interconnectedness of our lives. It’s not just about the person who was lost, but also about the loved ones left behi...

From Curiosity to Addiction: How I Fell for K-dramas

Image
How did your love for K-dramas begin?  A little background about me: I lived almost my entire childhood in Lebanon. You can imagine how clueless I was about the rest of the world. All I knew was my culture, food, religion, and people. Everything else was a mystery to me, since there was no diversity where I lived. Ironically, I still looked forward to the days when I would watch my favorite Turkish and Bollywood shows with my mom. That’s how my curiosity about other cultures and people began. I never expected to start watching K-dramas, but it all began when I was exploring some channels on my TV and  Boys Over Flowers  came on. Who would've thought a Korean show about a poor girl and a group of wealthy men known as F4 would make me addicted to K-dramas? I remember when I first watched it, I was obsessed with the poor girl, rich boy trope and dreamed of meeting my Jun-pyo... until I grew up and realized he was toxic and abusive all along. That’s how my love for K-d...
